Individual Font Weights: Product Uploader

What's New?

To elevate our font-selling experience, we've separated multi-style font families into individual fonts. By offering more choice and flexibility to your customers, we want to give you complete autonomy over your products and a fresh way to showcase individual fonts.

Uploading a New Font Family

  1. Head to the Creative Market Home Page.
  2. Click "Add Product."
  3. Select "Fonts" under the "Choose Category" drop-down menu.
  4. On the right-hand side, you'll see both family and individual weight prices - use this to set one price across all weights, or price each individually.
  5. Make sure your ZIP contains every font and attachment file you want included. Once you save, each weight becomes its own listing - more on that below.
  6. Use our suggested pricing, or set your own. Need a starting point? See the Minimum Prices article.

After you save, refresh the product editor - you'll now see your family broken out by individual style, under Font Style and Attachments.

Width & Weight Filters

Buyers can now filter fonts by shape on the fonts page - not just by tags - using two new filters next to Price:

  • Width: Condensed / Normal / Wide / Monospaced
  • Weight: Light / Regular / Bold / Heavy

When a customer filters and uses the type tester in search results, the preview automatically switches to a style from the family that actually matches the filter - for example, filtering "Condensed Bold" shows a condensed, bold style, rather than your default display style.

For you as a shop, this means better discoverability: buyers looking for a specific look - chunky and bold, or slim and condensed - can now find your fonts by shape, without relying on you to have tagged for it.

How your fonts were classified

Width and weight values are read directly from your font files themselves - style names, the metadata declared inside the file, and how the glyphs actually render - rather than from seller-provided tags. Every style in a family is automatically assigned a width and weight, and the family shows up under every width/weight its styles cover. This applies across your whole existing catalog as well as new uploads - no action is required on your part.

How to check a style's values

  1. Open the product in your Product Editor.
  2. Find a style under Font Style, and open its Width & Weight tab.
  3. You'll see the auto-detected Width and Weight for that style, labeled as auto-detected.

How to change one

  1. From the same Width & Weight tab, pick a new value from the Width or Weight dropdown.
  2. Click Save.
  3. Your choice replaces our auto-detected value and updates the family's filter results going forward.

Note: this is only available in the product editor, since individual styles don't exist until after a font family has finished processing - it isn't part of the initial uploader flow.

Updating a Font Family After It's Live

This is the part that causes the most confusion, so read it once and the zip lock will never be a mystery again.

What happens when your family goes live

When you first save a font family, we automatically split ("fission") it into individually purchasable weights and styles. That's what lets a customer buy just "Bold" instead of the whole family. Once that split happens, every weight becomes its own product listing, with its own buyers and download history.

Why the zip upload is locked

If we let you re-upload a whole new zip after your family has split into individual weights, it could wipe out those individual listings - and any customer who bought a single weight would lose access to their download. So we intentionally lock the whole-zip replace option once your family is live, specifically to protect your buyers.

This is expected, by-design behaviour - not a bug. And importantly, the individual files underneath aren't locked. You can still update them, just one weight at a time, without touching the zip at all.

What you can update yourself, right now

Expand any style under Font Style and you'll see three tabs: Update files, Update prices, and Width & weight. Each lets you edit that one style in place, without touching the rest of the family.

Update files - fix or improve an existing weight: new shape, better spacing/rhythm, readability tweaks, a corrected name table, bug fixes, new hinting, or a version update (e.g. v1.0 → v2.0).
Expand the style Update files tab click Replace upload the corrected file Save.

Update prices - change what a single weight sells for, independent of the rest of the family.
Expand the style Update prices tab enter the new price Save.

Width & weight - fine-tune the auto-detected classification for that style (see the Width & Weight Filters section above).
Expand the style Width & weight tab choose new values from the drop-downs Save.

Update a non-font file - README, license doc, bonus asset. This lives at the family level, not per-style.
Go to Attachments in the editor replace or add the file Save.

Saving any of these automatically rebuilds your download package and regenerates webfonts - no need to touch the zip. This covers the large majority of update requests, since they change an existing style's file, price, or classification rather than which weights exist in the first place.

What still needs our help

The tabs above only work on a style that already exists. Two things are different, because they change which styles exist in the fissioned product - and that touches buyer purchase history, so it isn't self-serve yet:

Adding a brand-new weight or style that wasn't in the original upload:
Contact Shop Support with your product link and the new file.

Removing a weight or style entirely - for example, one added by mistake:
Contact Shop Support with your product link and which style to remove.

Self-serve style management for these two cases is being explored as a future improvement.

Product Page

Customers can view and buy individual font weights at the prices you've set, directly from the product page.

Once your customer chooses an individual font weight, they'll select the license they need and complete checkout through their cart.

Troubleshooting

"The zip upload box is greyed out / locked."

This is expected once your family has split into individual weights - see "Why the zip upload is locked" above. Use Font Style → Update files → Replace for the specific weight instead of the main zip uploader.

"Font family processing failed. Your font family is for sale, but individual styles are not available for purchase."

This is a different issue - something went wrong while we generated your individual weight listings. It is not the zip-lock behaviour above, and does need our team's help. Contact Shop Support with your product link.

General upload issues

  1. Delete and re-upload the product.
  2. Give it time - processing can take up to 30 minutes.
  3. Double-check your font files are properly formatted and within our 4 GB upload limit.
  4. Still stuck? Reach out to Shop Support with a link to your product and a screenshot or recording of the issue.
