Glossary of License Terms

Summary: Learn more about common terminology used in our Licenses.

App: Desktop

An application that runs on a desktop computer (e.g. Windows, Mac, etc).

App: Mobile

An application that runs on a mobile device (e.g. iPhone, Android, Samsung, Apple Watch, iPad, etc).

App: Web

A web app is an application that runs in a web browser. Web apps are interactive websites, allowing a user to control the end result or output. Examples include color tools, games, or interactive maps that are accessible from a website.

Website vs. Web App
Websites are informational, while web apps are interactive. A web app is found on a website, but not all websites are web apps.

Commercial Use

If any one or more of the following criteria is met, then the use is deemed Commercial:

  • Any Use that involves an exchange of money or other consideration,
  • Any Use that promotes a business (e.g., sole proprietorship, corporation, or partnership), product, or service
  • Any Use where financial gain or other consideration is either sought or a result, directly or indirectly, of Licensee’s use of the Licensed Asset

Design on Demand

A service that allows an End User to create or customize an End Product, often with the use of a library or selection of pre-made assets. The End User can (but is not limited to) move around graphics, change colors, customize text, or add graphics to create a custom End Product that they may download, purchase, or submit for production after completion.

Editorial

Opinion pieces or news articles appearing in newspapers or news sites, periodicals (magazines), or blogs. Editorial work is typically informative in nature.

End Product

An End Product is a product you will create from the asset(s) you purchased on Creative Market. An End Product may or may not be sold.

Embed

With regard to fonts, embedding is when a font file becomes a part of the specific software, file, or website. For example, under the E-Pub License, a font may be embedded in a PDF or eBook, which will allow the customer to view text created with that font. Please note that our licenses do not allow embedding in a way that enables the end user to extract the font files. Please see each specific font license for more details on which type of embedding is permitted, if any.

Extract

Deconstruct an End Product in order to obtain the original licensed Asset in its original or modified form.

Global Market

“Global” market means any distribution of display of advertisements in more than one nation/country.

Impression

One view of a webpage, social media post, or online advertisement by a single individual.

License

A legal agreement that sets usage limits on an Asset you download on Creative Market. Purchasing an Asset (product) on Creative Market is effectively purchasing a license to use the Asset, and by completing a purchase on Creative Market, you agree to the terms of the license you purchased. (Please note that Free Goods are also licensed Assets, and by downloading a Free Good, you agree to the terms of its license.) The License you purchase will define the usage rights that you have for that Asset. Please see the specific license terms of any license you purchase for specific information about your usage rights.

Licensee

Person who purchases a license on Creative Market

Licensor

Creative Market on behalf of the shop owner

Local Market

“Local” market means that all display or distribution of these permitted advertisements must be within a 200 mile radius within the borders of a single nation/country.

National Market

“National” market means any distribution or display of advertisements beyond a 200 mile radius within a single nation/country.

Personal Use

Personal Use is any use that meets none of the criteria for Commercial Use. Personal, or Non-commercial, use is a use for solely personal purposes. For a use to be considered “Personal” it must meet ALL THREE of the following:

  • The use must not involve an exchange of money
  • The use must not promote a business entity (including non-profit businesses)
  • The use must not directly or indirectly result in financial gain

Print-on-Demand

A service that allows an End User to order or produce End Product(s) on demand. This service may or may not allow the End User to customize the End Product prior to production. End Products produced by a print-on-demand service may or may not be pre-designed.

Rasterize

Converting a vector path or editable type to a static bitmap image (e.g. JPG, PNG, or other flat image format / layer). This does not refer to outlining paths from vector type.

Seat

One user who is authorized to use a licensed Asset

Social Media Account: Business

A social media account, as mentioned in our License terms, refers to a social media "presence" and may include social media accounts on multiple platforms that are all owned by the same person, company, or brand. For example, your business might have a Twitter account, Facebook account, and Instagram account with the same, or a similar, handle. This is one social media presence. A social media presence for a business forwards a common business or company and might result, directly or indirectly, in product sales or revenue.

Social Media Account: Personal

A social media account, as mentioned in our License terms, refers to a social media "presence" and may include social media accounts on multiple platforms that are all owned by the same person. For example, you might have a Twitter account, Facebook account, and Instagram account with the same, or a similar, handle. This is one social media presence. A personal social media presence is one you use for personal activities like family updates, pictures of pets, a log of your hobbies, or other personal posting. It does not result, directly or indirectly, in product sales or revenue.

Static Image

A flattened image that cannot be reverse-engineered to extract any vector, type, or individual raster asset. Static images might include flattened files like JPG, PNG, GIF, etc. Layered files like PSD and AI are not static images.

Sub-Licensing

Allowing a third party to use, in a full or limited capacity, the license that you have purchased. See this article for more information on how sub-licensing works with our License terms.

Title

One specific published E-Publication, game, or application. A title may be released in multiple formats. For example, an E-book entitled "Memoirs" may be released in PDF, EPUB, and Kindle formats; the title is released in 3 different formats but is still the same title. A prequel, sequel, or subsequent edition of the book would be considered a separate title.
