Certified FAQ - Certified Criteria Checklist

What is Certified by Creative Market?

Certified products are reliable, well organized, and easy to use. To get Certified, sellers submit their best products, requesting a review from our Curation Team.

For a submitted product to be Certified, it must undergo a review from our Curation Team and be found to meet all 20+ points of the Certified criteria.

Certified items are subject to the same terms as non-Certified items, including disclaimers of warranties.

If a product isn’t Certified, does that mean it’s low quality?

Not at all! If a product isn’t Certified it does not mean it’s a low quality product. Overall, the quality of products on Creative Market is outstanding! In order for shop owners to sell on Creative Market, they first have to share a portfolio of their work and submit a shop owner application. The majority of creators who apply to sell on Creative Market aren’t granted a shop. This means, if a somebody is selling on Creative Market they’ve already proven themselves to be a producer of high-quality design assets.

Certified by Creative Market does not distinguish high quality products from low quality products. Rather, this program distinguishes the VERY best products, from a pool of already outstanding products. The best of the best. As many Creative Market buyers can attest, product is on Creative Market are already some of the best products around.

Through our Certified program, we’re partnering with our shop owners to take their fantastic products one step further, making them the best they can possibly be. Not every shop owner will wish to undergo Certification, but if a shop owner is interested in taking that next step and Certifying one of their products, they can submit their product for a Certified review from our Curation Team.

What does the Certified review process look like? What Criteria are you checking for?

For the Certified program, products undergo a 3-stage review process designed to ensure the highest level of quality. Products that fail to meet the criteria for a given stage won’t proceed to subsequent stages, and therefore will not be Certified by Creative Market.
Here are the three stages:

  1. Automated Denial Checkpoints
  2. Preliminary Curator Checkpoints
  3. Secondary Stage Curator Checkpoints

Automated Checkpoints (For All Product Categories)

These are qualities our system will automatically check for. If a product does not pass one or more of these checkpoints, it will not qualify for submission to the Curator’s Certification queue.

  • Product rating average is 80% or above
  • Shop rating average is 80% or above
  • Product has a refund rate of 0.5% or below
  • Product has 3 or more screenshots
    • This does not apply to photo products

Curator Review Checkpoints

These are the qualities the Curator will be checking for manually. Some of these checkpoints will apply to all category types, while others will be category-specific.

Preliminary Curator Checklist [These Apply to All Categories]

All products must meet this preliminary list of criteria in order to enter the secondary stage of the Certified review. If the Curator determines that a product does not meet one of the following requirements, it will be denied certification without a full review.

Files as represented

  • The product is listed under the correct category
  • Product files are delivered as .zip (not .rar or other archive formats)
  • The DPI (Dots per Inch) resolution is as advertised on the product page
  • The sizing is as advertised on the product page
  • The product’s file format(s) is/are as advertised on the product page
  • High graphic quality (no pixelation at 100%)
  • (If applicable) Layers are organized appropriately (grouped, in order)
  • (If applicable) Layers are labelled coherently

Product File

  • Delivered files are within Creative Market’s 4 GB limit
  • Main product files are all available without outside download links
  • There are no third-party files (e.g. fonts, photos) included in the download folder
  • Product does not contain offensive or inappropriate content

Secondary Stage Curator Checklist [Category-Specific]

If a product passes the preliminary portion of the review, it will move on to this secondary stage. At this point, our Curator is reviewing products based on category-specific requirements. If a product meets all of the requirements involved in this stage, it will be approved as a Certified product. If a product does not meet all of the requirements in this stage, it will be denied for certification and its shop owner will be provided with information on how the product could improve.

Photos

  • Good contrast and clarity; the objects are well-exposed
  • High-quality image with no pixelation or distortions
  • Clear subject matter focus
  • Avoids heavy-handed processing
  • Avoids generic “stock” appearance
  • Follows rule of thirds to moderate or higher degrees
  • Animal photography strives for “National Geographic” level of quality
  • Photo in the downloaded file does not have watermarks or added text

Graphics

  • Easily adaptable for potential end use cases
  • Files were created to be easily reorganized or used in new ways
  • Product clearly demonstrates value to potential customers
  • Balanced compositions
  • Well-crafted examples and applications are presented
  • Software required is clearly indicated on the product page
  • Icons
    • Easily adaptable for potential end use cases
    • Files were created to be easily reorganized or used in new ways
    • Product clearly demonstrates value to potential customers
    • Software required is clearly indicated on the product page
    • Icons are presented as a cohesive set
    • Style is consistent across all icons
    • Line art is consistently sized
    • Each icon employs clean line work, spacing, and thoughtful layout
    • All icons are clearly displayed within the screenshots
    • Icons are either legible at a variety of scales OR icon set includes variations for different scales
  • Illustrations
    • Easily adaptable for potential end use cases
    • Files were created to be easily reorganized or used in new ways
    • Product clearly demonstrates value to potential customers
    • Well-crafted examples and applications are presented
    • Software required is clearly indicated on the product page
    • Contain well-considered line work, color, and spacing
    • Illustration sets are visually consistent and work well together
    • Objects are stylistically unique; not derivative of other products on the marketplace
  • Patterns
    • Files were created to be easily reorganized or used in new ways
    • Product clearly demonstrates value to potential customers
    • Well-crafted examples and applications are presented
    • Software required is clearly indicated on the product page
    • Pattern elements are well-composed & demonstrate technical skill
    • Well-considered line work, color, and spacing
    • Pattern isn’t simple to the point of looking generic
    • Elements included are visually consistent and work well together as a set
    • Colors and elements are easy to modify or alter
    • Patterns are seamless
  • Textures
    • Easily adaptable for potential end use cases
    • Product clearly demonstrates value to potential customers
    • Well-crafted examples and applications are presented
    • Software required is clearly indicated on the product page
    • Texture files work well together as a set
    • Textures contain clean paths and are at 300 dpi or higher
    • Texture is interesting and useful

Fonts

  • Weights are legible, carefully crafted, and not automatically generated
  • Kerning and spacing are well-executed without gaps or crowding
  • Glyphs and ligatures are correctly generated
  • All font file formats (.otf, .ttf, .SVG, .woff, .woff2) are labelled and correct
  • Legible and easy to read at all presented sizes
  • Letter forms are correctly executed
  • Character set includes the basic Latin characters
  • Where applicable, font includes correctly-encoded OpenType features

Add-ons

  • Use cases are clear and show compelling before / after imagery
  • Includes a tutorial, help file, or FAQ
  • Use cases displayed are polished and professional
  • Software required is industry standard
  • Software compatibility is clearly labeled within use cases/screenshots on product page
  • Adds real value and improvement to the default software tools
  • Demonstrates a clear improvement to quality (Photo actions)

Templates

  • Template is easily adaptable
  • Design and colors are customizable
  • Formatted for use in industry-standard software
  • Utilizes a clear, functional grid
  • No third-party imagery is packaged in the download folder
  • No third-party fonts packaged in the download folder
  • Use cases clearly demonstrate how the product can be used.
  • Includes a tutorial, help file, or FAQ
  • Offers flexibility and versatility for a designer to alter (where applicable)
  • Covers multiple device types (where applicable)
  • Mockups
    • Products displayed look realistic, approachable, and convincing
    • If the product is highly stylized, all aspects of that style are handled consistently
    • Files are not flattened—all appropriate elements are editable
    • Non-editable elements can be used to increase versatility
    • Use case examples clearly highlight the adaptable features
    • Easy for art to sit naturally on the object
    • Includes a tutorial, help file, or FAQ

Themes

  • Theme is easily adaptable
  • Theme should consider all advertised screen sizes and device types
  • Design/colors are customizable
  • Utilizes a clear, functional grid
  • Includes functional “Live Preview" 
  • Clearly states required Content Management System, including version
  • Clearly states required server configuration, if any (e.g. a certain version of PHP)
  • No third-party imagery packaged in the download folder
  • No third-party fonts packaged in the download folder
  • No third-party frameworks (Genesis, etc) packaged in the download folder
  • Includes a tutorial, help file, or FAQ
